Celebrated the First-Ever Liturgical Konkani Mass inside a Church in Auckland,
New Zealand
In a historic moment for the New
Zealand Konkani community, the Mangalorean Kiwis Community, Auckland, NZ, in
collaboration with its members of the Konkani-speaking community, hosted the
First-Ever Liturgical Konkani Mass at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Papatoetoe,
Auckland, on Friday, 26 September 2025.
The mass, presided over by Rev Father
Basil Vaz of Vorkadi Church, Mangalore, of Mangalore Diocese, was a resounding
success, attracting 128 attendees from across Auckland.
The event marked a significant
milestone in the Konkani community's history, bringing together individuals
from diverse backgrounds to share in a spiritual experience.
The Event was also graced and
attended by the one and only Organising Committee Members of Auckland's Annual
Monty Feast Team. Well-known Radio Presenter of Susegad Danpaar, Mr. Richard
Miranda, was also Present during the Event.
The organizing committee, led by
community leader and Gurkar of Mangalorean Kiwis Community Dr. Jaison Kiran
Dsouza (PT), ensured the event was meticulously planned, with a Konkani choir led
by Ms. Preethika Dsouza, Ms Dreema Nisha Dsouza, Ms. Anita, Ms. Sapna Dsouza,
Ms. Renita, Mr. Denzil Lobo, and Ms. Presilla adding to the solemnity of the
occasion. A cup of tea was arranged for all attendees, fostering a sense of
camaraderie and gratitude.
Following the mass, Father Basil
was felicitated with a memento for his spiritual guidance. Miss Kika,
instrumental in organizing the event, was also honoured with a memorable
memento by the Gurkar of the community.
The event's success was made
possible through the generosity of sponsors, including Sure Car Ltd, Chicking
Restaurant Taupo, who were felicitated for their support.
The Rodriguez and Lewis families
also contributed significantly by organizing food for the attendees.
Radio Amchi Company played a
crucial role as the official online promoter and sponsor of online publicity.
The Lethargic Con Mass was a
testament to the community's spirit and commitment to faith and unity. Around
128 Individuals from all over Auckland participated in the holy Eucharist,
making it a truly memorable experience.
The organizing committee expressed heartfelt gratitude to all attendees, sponsors, and volunteers, wrapping up the event with a sense of fulfillment and thanksgiving.
